Well, it wasn't Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs, but it was billed as a mini-Battle of the Sexes nonetheless. On ABC's "Shaq Vs." this week, Shaq and partner Todd Rogers took on two-time Olympic gold medalists Kerri Walsh and Misty May. And for the second episode in a row, he got spanked.
Now, I have to give him a little credit. He wasn't terrible. His setting was actually pretty decent and although he looks stiff and slow, he managed to move around the court with some speed when he needed to.
But with the net being only three inches above Shaq's head, I expected Coach Dalhausser to get him to bang some balls. As it was, Shaq relied on the open-hand tip too much and he put the ball over on two more than he should have. With those hands, if he had set Todd instead of sending the ball over the net early, things could have been different. He might have actually had a chance.
Wish I could say the same for the show itself. I love Shaq, but there is no reason for this show to last an entire hour. The first 30-minutes of fluff-laden filler was tough to sit through. ABC is lucky there is nothing good on television until the Fall lineup comes around.
But all-in-all it was good pub for the AVP Tour on a major network in prime time and that certainly can't hurt.

It was kinda painful to watch all the prolonged contacts and net infractions though.
i thought it was entertatining… but I think Todd could have jump-served a little harder to the ladies. the Serena Williams segment should have been eliminated and focused more on the volleyball training of Shaq.
