Big Weekend Ahead for Top NCAA Teams

After all the craziness of the last few weeks in beach volleyball, we can now officially turn our attention back to the indoor game.

The women's season is underway and the week 2 regular season rankings are out. Despite losing superstars Megan Hodge and Alisha Glass, Penn State is still atop the the Coaches Poll. They started the season with a 6-0 record, though they have not yet been tested. This weekend that will change as the Nittany Lions head to Florida for the Nike Big Four Volleyball Classic along with No. 2 Stanford, No. 4 Florida, and No. 5 Texas.

This tournament will be a great chance to get these teams off paper and see how they match up in the real world, albeit the early stages. Tough to say how this one will go so I'll reserve judgment until I see how these teams match up head-to-head. Penn State is sitting on that 108-match win-streak and hoping to extend it. If they do it this weekend, their chances get better to keep it going for all season long.

The rest of the nation's top five in this week's rankings includes No. 6 Hawaii and No. 3 Illinois. Last weekend, UH lost their first match of the season in five sets to No. 8 USC while Illinois took out then No. 2 Texas in a surprising three sets. The Illini will take on No. 7 Nebraska this weekend in Lincoln.
