Prince Harry and Beach Volleyball

By , About.com Guide   January 18, 2012

Follow me on:

Reports are that in his official role as ambassador for the games, Prince Harry is set to make an appearance at the beach volleyball venue during the London Olympic Games. Though nothing is certain it appears that he along with brother William and sister-in-law Kate will be attending various events in hopes of bringing a little magic to what they called the "less high-profile events."

Frankly, I'm not sure how beach volleyball could be considered low-profile since the tickets sold out immediately and it has consistently been one of the most popular Olympic sports. You know what is less high-profile? Indoor volleyball.

It seems they want to keep the intrigue and excitement going by not revealing exactly where and when they'll show up. Wouldn't it be great if they made their way over to Earl's Court in west London, sat courtside as the USA women make their run for the gold and posed for post-match pictures with Logan Tom and Destinee Hooker? Just think what a boost that would be for a sport that could really use one.

Still, it will be great pub to have one of the royals in attendance at a volleyball event of any kind. I'll take it, but I'll keep hope alive that we could still get a surprise appearance on the indoor side.

Totally agree with you, i was reading the first paragraph of your post in my reader and i was thinking “wait, didn’t it sold out?” – although it has a lot to do with corporate sales, it definitely means the sport is somewhat popular enough.

on the other hand, it’s maybe a matter of popularity within the uk. In which case, indoor vs outdoor volleyball are pretty much the same here (i live there btw) and don’t have nearly as high a profile as football, rugby or cricket. and they would both benefit from a royal appearance, if it provides extra media coverage,

In that sense, i would say i’d double up the appearances rather than chosing between indoor vs outdoor.
