NCAA Men: Movement Below Top Five

By January 25, 2012

Follow me on:

This week the top five teams remained unchanged but there was quite a bit of movement below them in this week's AVCA poll.

The biggest fall went to Long Beach State. The 49ers fell three spots to No. 11 after losing in five to CSUN. Northridge rose two spots to No. 9 after the victory. Pacific climbed three spots after an unexpected four set win over Santa Barbara. The Tigers are now at No. 12 while the Gauchos fell two spots to No. 15.

Penn State dropped a match to Lewis last week in four sets and fell two spots to No. 8 in this week's poll while Lewis rose two spots to No. 7.

Things will get even more interesting this week as Stanford and Pacific head to the East Coast to take on Penn State and Ohio State in what should be a pretty exciting invitational tournament in Columbus.

No. 1 BYU is off this week after taking care of USC last week in both meetings, winning in four on the first night and five on the second. USC will head down to Irvine to take on No. 2 UCI.

Here are the rest of your matches to watch:

No. 6 Pepperdine @ No. 2 UCI
No. 9 CSUN @ No. 3 UCLA

Friday, January 27th
No. 5 USC @ No. 2 UCI
No. 15 UCSB @ No. 3 UCLA
No. 4 Stanford vs. No. 8 Penn State
No. 12 Pacific @ No. 10 Ohio State

Saturday, January 28th
No. 4 Stanford @ No. 10 Ohio State
No. 12 Pacific vs. No. 8 Penn State
