It has been a very big month for USA Volleyball. Not only did our own CEO Doug Beal announce his candidacy for the President of the FIVB, but we got word that the USA men's team will get to fight to qualify for the Olympics on their own home soil. There is nothing like a little home court advantage, so let's hope the men can take advantage of it.
When Puerto Rico was suddenly unable to host the event due to an FIVB date change, USAV put in a bid for the tournament and won. This will mark the first time this event has been held in the United States. It is imperative that the men win this tournament in order to qualify for London.
If they fail to do so, they will have one more chance but in far less ideal circumstances and in very close proximity to the Games. The pressure is on, and we get to watch it live. USAV says it is working to get the event broadcast on television as well.
The NORCECA event will be held at the Long Beach Pyramid on May 7-12. Ticket information will be available soon. Check the USA Volleyball website for details.
