Stanford extended its winning streak to 20 matches with the decisive 3-0 win over former No. 2 Oregon over the weekend. They did it without the help of one of their leading hitters, freshman OH Jordan Burgess, who left the previous match with an injury and did not play at all against the Ducks.
The winning streak is Stanford's longest since 1999. This week's AVCA Coaches Poll rewarded the Cardinal with all 60 first place votes. The Ducks fell two spots to No. 4 this week. Stanford will host No. 5 Washington on Thursday in another important conference match up.
The biggest climb of the week went to Texas. The Longhorns are up four places from last week after beating Kansas State in three. The biggest plummet of the week went to Nebraska. The Cornhuskers dropped two matches to unranked teams - Michigan and Michigan State - and fell five spots to No. 9.
Penn State is back in the No. 2 spot after beating Minnesota 3-1 this week. It was a rough weekend for the LA teams. UCLA lost to unranked Arizona and USC lost to unranked Arizona State last weekend. Both fell only a bit in the poll, UCLA is down just one spot to No. 6 and USC is down two spots to No. 8.
Two new teams entered the poll for the first time all season. North Carolina entered the poll at No. 22 after beating Miami while Creighton made the list at No. 25 after beating Northern Iowa. Miami fell out of the top 25 this week as did Saint Mary's.
