We gathered up several of the industries best volleyballs and for six weeks a men's A level volleyball club hit, spiked, drilled, passed, rolled and served these balls. We looked at the balls when we first started and compared their performance, exterior condition and feel 6 weeks later. All of these balls are good and each one of them would serve any club or team, a few stood out.

1) Tachikara SV-5W Gold

An awesome feel with a very forgiving suspended bladder allows for good passing control. The only flaw is the quick wear down of the exterior. The fine leather's porous quality makes for a great feel but quickly degrades the appearance of the ball.

2) Wilson 6000LE

This ball has a great soft outer shell and wonderful control is set apart from the rest by its durability. However, Wilson balls often have problems with their needle valves. Wilson will replace any defects with out a problem.

3) Mikasa VFC-200

This ball has a technology called, "true shape retention." The end result was a ball that remained round; however, it appeared deflated on the top. No denying its wonderful feel and playability.

4) Ichiban 5L-ST

A nice alternative to the other great volleyballs. It’s a little unforgiving when it comes to passing but allows for a great floater serve. The ball is a little harder than most and even calls for a lower PSI when inflating.

5) Tachikara SV-5W H

An excellent alternative to the SV-5W Gold, this ball is almost an exact replica. Designed as a cheaper alternative for high schools, this ball's construction is almost identical.

6) Spalding TF4000

One of the more expensive volleyballs, this ball had great playability and feel. Construction technology allowed for a forgiving bounce of the arms and a wonderful feel when hitting. Some problems with panel construction.

7) Tachikara SV18L

For a practice ball, this is the one to choose. Leather quality is a lower than other Tachikaras and so it has a slightly cheaper feel, but the technology are there and during play it is difficult to discern which Tachikara you are hitting.

8) Tachikara SV-5WSC

Judged differently against the other balls because this is a "soft touch" volleyball. Not condoned by any league for play, this ball is an OUTSTANDING warm-up ball.
