Dain Blanton - cp Scott Hammon 2000

Eric "Fonoi" Fonoimoana has been playing for the Association of Volleyball Professionals since 1992.  Fonoi, the youngest of six siblings, has two other AVP brothers and a Sister who participated in the 1976 Olympics as a swimmer.

Fonoi played for the UC Santa Barbara team in college, earning All-American honors.  He broke into the beach scene in 1997 when he earned 13 time five finishes.  That was followed by his best year yet when in 1998 earned eight top three finishes with partner Dain Blanton.  After switching partners in 1999 and playing with Mike Whitmarsh, Fonoi partnered up again with Dain Blanton for the end of the 1999 season and the 2000 season.

They shocked many by overcoming the defending Olympic Gold Medalist, Karch Kiraly and his partner, Adam Johnson in the Olympic qualification race.
