Hands on Blocking Drill

This drill emphasizes full hand contact with the ball while blocking, speed, and coordination. Can be done at one point or add foot work for two points.

Two players at a time. Each "Holder" stands on chair at net opposite of Blocker, and has a Feeder with a bucket of balls. Blocker jumps and grabs ball from holder at net height. Blocker attempts to slam same ball to ground behind her (overhead) before she lands. Shaggers ensure no stray balls linger. If ball hits blocker's butt or legs, she is either releasing too late or arching as she ends her jump.

Added factors: Pairs of blockers can "race" to see who can empty their bucket first. As an individual drill, set holders about 4 feet apart and have blocker jump, make solid contact with the ball, land, step-hop to next holder and do the same. Time blockers on 10 touches (emphasizing speed - not high jumps) and see who (with proper step and touches) is fastest.

Fun Rating: 4 out of 5
