Sheets Up

From Gayle

A volleyball clubhouse drill.

Variation on a drill I got from Sue Gozansky at a CAP course. You can find her drill and many other great drills and words of wisdom in her book, " Championship Volleyball Techniques & Drills."

Improves reaction time

Preparation - Place sheets up over the net so that passers can’t see coach. (3 king size bed sheets work great), cart of balls

Drill - Coach and cart of balls on one side of sheets(net). On other side of the court you have two passers; one in the base position for middle back and one for left back. A target in the setter position, and one feeder line.

Coach slaps ball (which initiates freeball transition on other side of the net) and puts ball into play.

Players must transition and pass freeball to target.

Rotation = passer - target - shag ball to cart - end of line (non-passer and new passer must assume base positions prior to ball slap)

Benefits - Players develop quick reactions to the ball. They learn to look for the ball and when you take the sheets down, they see how much time they have to react and how much information they have to read the plays.
