Three Up Drill

From Gayle

A volleyball clubhouse drill

Improves both hitting and blocking skills

By high school most hitters are up against blocker in games, so don’t cheat your hitters and blockers out of getting a change to face each other in practice.

Use a your standard 3 hitter drill where you toss to the setter, just add blockers.

Rotation - Hitter - Blocker - Shagger - end of hitting line. Hitters stay until they get a set then they take the blocking position directly across the net. Blockers stay till they are relieved. (if you have players who are too short to block they can hit and then the blocker just has to wait for the next hitter to be relieved)

Variation - Require off Blocker to cover and for Blockers to try and pick up their own junk off the block.

Players can get quite competitive and it can add a lot of excitement to practice when there is a big block especially from an unexpected player. I think that this makes your hitters smarter and if they have issues with tipping a lot or not swinging hard when they have blockers, you can identify early and make corrections.
