I may have just answered that, but
let me give you a little more detail. When I coach a high school
match, the finals of JO tournament, the finals of a 5-day team camp, etc.,
I coach to WIN. If only 6 girls get into the match, or 8,
or 9, then that's the way it is. If we can win with 13 girls playing, then
so be it. But, in those situations, if a girl or her parents would
rather her play, jeopardizing the team's success, then they're being selfish,
they aren't looking out for the team, and we've got a problem. We
teach our girls that every team player would prefer to watch the team win
from the bench, rather than enter the match at the wrong time and the team
lose. I've seen soft-hearted coaches THIS PAST SEASON put weak players
in a crucial game, only to lose the entire match. No one benefits
from that tragedy. The players who lost the match are especially
damaged. Personally, I, Coach Houser, would rather be in the bleachers,
or standing on my head, or be dressed like a clown, or be in my car.......WHATEVER,
if it would give my team a better chance to win. Shouldnt we ALL
feel that way?
If you have other questions that
you think I should address, please send me an email.
