| Part 7: Final Thoughts | |||||||||||||||||
By trying to make your gym an even tougher place to play than before, your opponents will search for actions that they can consider to be unsportsmanlike, even when none exists. Last year I was hollered at by an opposing parent for how a match was being videoed. "That's the worse match Linda has played this year," she said, "You had that camera put there to distract her!!" Actually, I didn't. The person with the camera wasn't even affiliated with my program, but .........that's not a bad idea ...............hmmm. Seriously now, as the head coach, you must always be on the lookout for actions by your players, fans, assistants, managers, etc. that can be "reputation busters." I've pointed out a few. You stay alert! For the team that hasn't been so successful: It won't take long for the girls to buy into all this. When the amount of fun begins to increase, when girls come back to your program year after year, when you begin to be competitive with the "big girls," then the team will get to the gym earlier to do even more!! Let them help you come up with ideas, but always veto the "rep busters." Hey, a lot of the things that I've listed above have already been done to your team before, so now let's turn the tables!! Any interesting intimidators that
your team already uses? Email
me or post them on the BBS. I'd
love to hear about them!! Have a great time in the fall!
