The USA Men's Team in 2010

Where They're At With Two Years to Go Before London

By , About.com Guide

The men's team finished up their competition at the World Championships in Italy with a sixth place finish in the tournament. There were both bright spots and trouble zones that surfaced for Team USA over the course of this three-week event. Though the World Championship result is not an accurate predictor of Olympic success, the men's team is at the halfway point to the next Olympic Games. With just two years remaining before London, let's take a look at the men's performance at Worlds and where they are in their development right now.

While 6th place is a disappointing finish for the Americans, it is fitting for the level of play they showed during the tournament. Though at times they played beautifully, they still lack the cohesion they need in order to win consistently. Some very good wins were peppered with some bad losses and near losses that were reminiscent of their World League performance over the summer.

Many of the players will now head back overseas with the intention of returning next May for the really serious training in the lead up to the Olympics. But for now, let's take a look at what worked and what needs work for the USA men.
