Gabrielle Reece First Playboy Cover Girl for 2001

December 2000 - Gabby Reece started her volleyball career late in life. However, it was not long before she made a name for herself as one of the best volleyball blockers on the college scene. After college, she joined the Budlight Classic beach volleyball tour and this tall blocker became one of the best known woman volleyball players on the beach. These days Gabby Reece may have stopped blocking volleyballs but she sure is blocking traffic in January's Playboy magazine.

Gabby Reece has always been known for her skills on the beach and her sexy advertisements and photos. She was the example to millions of girls around the world that women are more than faces or athletes, but anything they want to be. While being one of the biggest names in professional beach volleyball, Gabby had simultaneously secured a career as an international, sexy model. Throughout her career as a player, she has done some pretty sexy pictures and it was no surprise that she would eventually sell-out to the lure of quick money at Playboy.

Growing up a tall, lanky girl, the best she thought she would amount to is running a gift shop. It was not until she started receiving college recruitment letters to play Basketball that she even became interested in college. While she did play volleyball as a side sport, she really did not take volleyball seriously until her favorite basketball coach was fired. She started playing club volleyball and eventually received and accepted a scholarship to Florida State where she went on to a sensational college volleyball career.

Volleyball propelled this 6'3" athlete into the world of modeling. She first started modeling at the encouragement of a friend during her Junior year at FSU. Gabby's first big modeling job was with Cutex. While her 6'3" height was a little over the top, her stunning looks and athleticism soon landed her many more modeling opportunities.

After college, Gabby made an even bigger name for herself in volleyball playing for women's four person beach volleyball in the Bud Light Tour for five years, winning seven tour victories. However, the Bud Light Tour collapsed, and the political climate changed in volleyball. With the collapse of the only other pro women's volleyball tour in the USA, the WPVA, other than some brief exposures in 1999 on the AVP tour, she has all but retreated from the volleyball scene.

As, for her latest venture into the world of pornography, in the Playboy press release, she states that at 30, she finally feels "comfortable with her body." Playboy interest in this volleyball player goes beyond selling playboy volleyballs. You would have a hard time guessing Gabby is 30. Looking better than ever, Gabby presents herself on the front cover as a tall, statuesque, confident, athletic and sexy woman. However, as a role model for my daughters, her poster is coming off the wall.

"..in athletics, all the women are quiet different yet each exudes their own sexiness..."
"If I could represent one thing to women, it would be to be a woman who doesn't have to necessarily choose to be one thing."

-Gabby Reece
