Choosing a Volleyball Camp

Practical Factors

By , About.com Guide

Cost

Volleyball camps differ widely in cost. Day camps, where your child goes home after each day, are much less expensive than overnight camps in which you are also charged for room and board. There are very likely many great day camps in the area where you live which will provide good instruction and save you money. However, if you are interested in a camp more specifically suited for you child, you may find one elsewhere in the state or country that will be more beneficial. It is very possible to find a camp that fits your budget and your requirements, but you need to do your research.

Location

If your child is serious about the opportunity to play volleyball in college, you should consider sending her to a college volleyball camp. If she there is a university that she is particularly interested in, if she's a fan of the players at a certain school or if you like what the head coach is doing with the team somewhere, you might want to look into sending her to that school's camp. College camps are usually run by the program's head coach and the players on the team will be there to run drills and help out. Sending your child to a college camp also serves the purpose of getting her seen by the very people responsible for recruiting. If she hasn't been contacted by the coaches yet, playing at the school's camp could get her noticed and on the school's recruiting list.

Supervision

One last practical matter to consider is who will be watching over the kids while they are at camp. If you are sending your child to an overnight camp, you want to make sure you're comfortable with the adults who will be supervising the campers during the day and at night. You also want to be aware of the number of chaperones the camp will put in place and how many children they'll be responsible for.
