From the article: The PBVA Enters the Fray
Now that you've read what the PBVA is planning for beach volleyball next year, let us know what you think. Is this going to help or hurt the sport? Will this association bring all the factions together or will it scare off investors? Weigh in with your opinion on the debate. What Do You Think?
The Key to Making it Work
- Brilliant article. You nailed it. As you stated, you need pro's running the business side of the sport. The problem you run into is that "Pros" in the sports and entertainment business are stars themselves. They want big money or a piece of the pie to get involved. Big promises equal big paychecks. The sport sells itself in a lot of ways. Anyone who has ever been to a live beach volleyball tournament knows - it is intoxicating. It needs to be managed more than it needs to be sold. When the AVP went under and canceled the tour - the fans and promoters made it happen in Cincinnati and Manhattan Beach without the AVP. The PBVA is needed and I believe it will work. They already have several tournaments scheduled for 2011. If they avoid the big name sports agents and business superstars - they can sustain the tour just fine - with a lesser known, affordable and capable staff. There are a lot of talented business people and sponsors out there that fit within the budget.

Could Scare Investors
- In the late 80's the sport promoted fashion, bodies and the beach lifestyle to crossover and bring in fans from all demographics. The sport was the hottest thing around, made me buy Redsand and Sideout gear and I couldn't wait to watch it ...every week. The sport really does have potential to break through and it is a shame that it folds in on itself every 10 years. I fear that a players union will scare away any investor/sponsor it desperately needs to get back into the mainstream. I don't have the answers but would really love to see the sport succeed.

Let's See
- As long as the players don't get greedy and overestimate their worth considering the state of the sport right now, I think investors will still buy in.

Should Work
- If it has worked with the NFL and NBA and Tennis it seems that it should also work for beach volleyball.
